Hot Rod’s Classic Truck Parts was established by Rodney Helton in 1996.
Our adventure began at Reed William’s Grocery on Gordon Hill in Corbin, Kentucky. This was my grandparent’s store. My grandfather bought a brand-new 1950 Ford F-1. I was born at home and my grandfather drove me and my mother to the hospital in the truck. I learned to drive in that truck by delivering groceries and supplies around Corbin.
I have been in the automotive industry for 40 years as a mechanic and in management. I have worked at Ford Dealerships, was service manager at a specialty tune-up shop, worked and managed tire stores, and owned my own Texaco station. Denise (my wife) worked for Key Bank in the private banking department for several years, giving us both a very good background in customer service. I also was around drag racing since I was 18 years old. Several years ago I flipped my mustang, putting an end to my drag racing career.
I inherited my grandfather’s truck and decided to restore it, while working at the local Ford dealer. After finishing the truck, I decided to start a business in truck restoration. My idea was to build and sell chassis with an independent front suspension, 9” rear end, and a fully repaired cab. Following some serious medical issues, I started selling used parts to generate more income.
While restoring our truck we had trouble finding parts from dealers. Most of the dealer attitude’s were, "it’s my way or the highway, take it or leave it," and no customer service at all! When selling our used parts, many of our first customers expressed the same feelings. We saw a need for a company that could sell quality parts and give good service, too. We decided to start a parts business that provided fair and honest service for the customer. We understand that every customer has a vision for their truck and we enjoy supplying them the parts to create it. We pride ourselves on the fact that we are fair and honest people and we have the same approach in our business. We began with a small U-Haul trailer full of used parts and fiberglass products. After many years, we are doing very well and have a very satisfied customer base.
Hot Rod’s is truly a family business, consisting of my wife (Denise), my two sons (Rodney & Levi) and myself (Rodney). Denise is the true boss and she runs the office. Little Rodney does computer and web page work from Oregon. Levi and I work on restoration projects. Our close friends Tim and Brenda Gebhart help when they can around the shop.
We want to thank all of our customers and the people that we deal with!!
